The cells and tissue in these areas are subject to radiation such as gamma, radioactive and x-rays etc. They also can react to exposure to certain chemicals such as

• Benzedrine
• Aniline dyes
• Smoking and digested portions of the saliva that have been exposed to tobacco smoke and the elements contained in the fibrous filters of cigarettes, along with gases that have been taken into the digestive track
• Naphthalene
• Caffeine which, as a drug, acts as a stimulant
• Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame/Nutra-Sweet or saccharine, which, in abundance, act as toxins in the urinary tract

Another factor that can begin this process is schisosomiasis, which is a tropical disease that affects the urinary system. A frequent history of urinary tract infections debilitates the cells and tissues in these areas. Symptoms that can be observed are blood in the urine, pain in these areas, burning during or right after urination, and an increased frequency of urination.

Eighty percent of patients diagnosed with bladder cancer have blood or clots in their urine. Other urinary signs include increased frequency of urination, intermittent hesitancy, urgency, bladder spasms and pain or burning with urination (dysuria), difficulty passing urine and recurrent infections in the urinary tract.
